Preventive Dentistry for Abington Adults

Gain Healthy and Strong Teeth

We treat many different kinds of people at our practice, and you know what they all have in common? They’re busy. Between work and family, everyone’s time is limited, and the absolute last thing anyone wants to spend time on is getting a dental problem fixed. At Abington Family Dental the team will use our variety of preventive services to make sure your smile is always healthy and protected. With just two appointments each year, we’ll be able to catch dental problems while they are still easy to treat, and often, we’ll even stop them before they start!

Dental Checkups & Cleanings

With a dental cleaning, one of our excellent hygienists will use sophisticated tools to break up any plaque and tartar buildup on your teeth and gums, taking special care to focus on those areas your brush and floss can’t reach.

Then, one of our doctors will perform a thorough oral exam looking for common dental issues such as tooth decay, cavities, gum disease, and more. Afterward, they’ll come up with a treatment plan designed specifically to meet your individual needs.

Oral Cancer Screening

Closeup of smile after oral cancer screening This year, nearly 50,000 people will be diagnosed with oral cancer, and many of them will not survive the next 5 years simply because the disease was caught too late to be treated successfully. To make sure you or your loved ones are never caught off guard by this disease, our doctors can perform an oral cancer screening during your regular checkup. They’ll examine your lips, cheeks, gums, tongue, throat, and neck for any suspicious sores, rough spots, or growths. If they find anything that causes concern, they can help you take quick and appropriate action.

Nightguards for Teeth Grinding

Clear plastic nightguard Nearly 1 in 3 people unconsciously clench their jaw and grind their teeth while they sleep, which is a condition known as bruxism. Over time, this can strain the sensitive jaw muscles and even cause the teeth to wear down and break. To help with this sneaky habit, we can provide you with a custom-made mouthpiece called a nightguard. You’ll only need to wear it to bed, and it works by providing a protective barrier between the teeth. Since everyone is made to fit each individual patient, you won’t even notice you’re wearing it after just a few nights.

Fluoride Treatment

To help strengthen your teeth and keep them healthy between appointments, we can offer you a quick treatment where you’ll simply wear a small set of mouth trays filled with a highly-concentrated fluoride gel. It only takes 1-4 minutes, and it’s one of the easiest ways we can protect your teeth all year.

Mouthguards

Before you hit the field, mat, or court, make sure to protect your teeth with an athletic mouthguard. Our practice can provide you with a custom-made one that will be much more comfortable than anything you can buy at the store, and it’ll also do a much better job of keeping your smile safe. Plus, mouthguards have even been shown to reduce a person’s risk of sustaining concussions, making them even more important for your everyday gear!

Periodontal Therapy

More and more research is showing that the health of your gums is a huge indicator for your overall health, so during your regular checkups, we’ll make sure to keep an eye on them and act quickly if you show any signs of this infection. Treatment for gum disease can include everything from a regular dental cleaning to a special, gum-focused “deep cleaning” and antibiotic therapy.

With this array of services, we’ll make sure that your teeth are the absolute LAST thing on your mind the next time you eat, speak, laugh, or smile. To schedule a preventive appointment, please contact us today.
